Station Index

The Passion of the Christ has focused unparalleled attention on the circumstances of Christ's execution.

The Age of Aquarius' take on the event is reflected in Jesus Christ, Superstar. In the course of that presentation, Judas - if memory serves me well - chides Jesus for coming in such a backwater place and in an era before mass communication.

Now we have the Age of Terrorism's take boosted by the mass media, to say nothing of the special effects technology, lacking in the time of Jesus.

The Passion of the Christ, if nothing else, has forced us to reflect on the final hours of Christ's life and on his resurrection three days later. That reflection is most fruitful when it leads one to identify with the message of Jesus and to seek ways - even ones personally costly - to implement it in one's life.

We can only hope that the following presentation of the Way of the Cross will encourage such fruitful meditation.

Peace & prayer, Fr. Roy

Over the centuries, the number of stations in the service has varied from 7 to 34. The current stations generally number 14 (give or take a few - depending on which variation you are using).

If you click on the numbers shown with the text, you will be taken to the source citations for the passage shown. Links are available on the source page to take you to the original documents.

The stations in the Church of Saint Stephen in Geneva, NY, start at the sentencing of Jesus by Pontius Pilate. Other stations start at the garden of Gethsemane. Since the pictures I used are of the stone carvings from St Stephen's, the stations start at the condemnation of Jesus.

For a more complete experience of the stations, Start at the Beginning Prayer and Meditation and proceed to the stations from there.
